Machotaildrop Première Review

Just got back from the Machotaildrop Première over at Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square, which sold out all 285 seats. Here’s a little write up review type thing that no one will probably read!

Machotaildrop

After a brief introduction from John Rattray, Machotaildrop was right underway. A brilliant fantasy comedy that was not too heavily focused on the actual skateboarding, and more on the industry and culture behind it.

The story tells of a young boy Walter Rhum (Anthony Amedori) on his path to every skaterboarders dream of becoming Pro for the company Machotaildrop run by the Baron (James Faulkner). Along the way he meets his favourite skater Blair Stanley (Rick McCrank) which he is soon to knock off the top spot. Whilst an anarchical gang named Manwolves are forced to attempt to destroy Machotaildrop, Walter finds out about the unprecedented truth behind the company and how his own mentor George’s (Steve Olson) hero is left with no future.

The cast was amazingly fitting for the film, featuring such great skaters as Steve Olson, Rick McCrank, Frank Gerwer (the horseman!) and previously mentioned John Rattray. I must give credit to Steve Olson who provided one of the best narrations to the film that I’ve heard in a long time. Also in the cast was the amazing filmer and videographer French Fred (Fred Mortagne) and the Hollywood oldie James Faulkner, not to mention the only female in the cast (and incredibly attractive) Vanessa Guide.

Once the movie had finished Alex Craig, the co-director, opened the floor for questions which revealed some interesting facts about the production of the film. One of which was that the total budget grew to a huge $1million USD by the time the film came to an end, and how not all of that budget was attained legally! This is easy to see as some of the locations are so extraordinary and beautiful that it must have cost a small fortune to be able to film there.

There is more than a possibility that this feature film will be released on DVD with 40minutes of extra footage, but when was not disclosed. But keep your eyes out for it, as this is a film not to miss.

Blueprint – Make Friends With The Colour Blue

So after a heavy night at the Black Sheep Bar for Goatmens birthday, and Andre showing us his love for bands that start with ‘The’, the lads went home for a quick shower before setting off to watch the new Blueprint video.

Blueprint MFWTCB Princes Cinema

Blueprint – Make Friends With The Colour Blue premiere is being shown at the Prince Charles Theatre in Leicster Square, London, the same venue as the Fully Flared premiere a couple of years back. Popcorn and drinks all round I think.

Lots of hype behind this new video, let’s hope it smashes Lost And Found into the lost and found department (excuse the horrible pun).

[UPDATE]

Video was pretty sick in the end. Real arty style which Blueprint seemed to have evolved into, loads of texturised motion graphics, and a very strange ‘section’ style, linking them together without names being shown.

As for the skating, as you can imagine, top class. Some of the stand out sections were Neil Smith (self confessed fanboy), Danny Brady (styles for fucking miles), Paul Shier (croydon represent), Mark Baines (getting fucking tech) and Sylvain Tognelli (major surprise).

Can’t wait for this to come out on DVD, will definitely be putting this in my “most watched” section of my collection.

Nike SB Debacle Review

I can only be brief at the moment because I’m using my phone to post this, but in short the video was fucking sick.

Daryl Angel had the opening section, laid down some pretty sick hammers and tech grind skills.
Next up it was David Clark. Can’t remember much of this section apart from that it felt quite short.
Shane O’Neil and Theotis Beasley had a joint section which was super rad, back to back stair sessions and a whole host of nails in the coffin.
Grant Taylor, the token Bowl rider was next. All I’m saying is OH MY FUCKING GOD. Mad skills.
Then to finish up this 25minute sicko-fest was Justin Brock. Wouldn’t have been my ender based on his rag style, but oh my is he good. The ender was so silly, Brophy Ollied it . . . and he 360flipped it!

Nike supplied Free Beer and Free Pizza to everyone at the event which was really sick. I also heard that they delivered the Beer in Nike SB shoe boxes! And inside 10 of these boxes where a Debacle t-shirt and other stuff. Unfortunately Slam didn’t give any of that shit out, I guess cause it was probably the biggest venue and loads of people went to see it there.
Which brings me to the next part of sickness Nike had in store for us! The video was being streamed simultaneously to 58 other sites in Europe! Each with their own webcam to record the reactions of the crowd. We could see all of these webcams on a little slideshow, whilst in the bottom corner was a countdown till the video was going to start. Before the film started I caught a glimpse of the Southsea Crew all chilling in one of their living rooms, advertising the Bored website.

The colours in the video where absolutely amazing, they definitely showed off the capabilities of the HD equipment, although I didn’t see much “Ty Evans Tracking Dolly” maneuvers that have been rinsed since the dawn of HD.

Can’t wait for this to be out, so make sure that you keep an eye out on the Debacle Site and download the full video on the 24th of this month, COMPLETELY FREE!!!!1111ONEONE
